Wern Chai

Wern Chai completed his B Pharm (Hons) at the University of South Australia. After obtaining his full registration as a pharmacist at the end of 2015, he decided to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy (Pharmacology). With a strong research interest in drug discovery and drug development, Wern’s research focus primarily on the development novel antimicrobial agent via structural activity relationship, targeting novel site of actions in highly resistant microorganism such as Acinetobacter baumannii. Being highly enthusiastic in pharmacy profession, Wern is currently serving as a committee member on the the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s Early Career Pharmacist (SA/NT Branch). He has taken part in key reviews such as the Code of Ethics for Pharmacist and Professional Practice Standards for Pharmacist in Australia. Wern is also accredited as a compounding pharmacist, and has been involved in the review of the Compounding Standards as part of the Professional Practice Standards. Wern is also passionate about teaching the Undergraduate students at the University. He has experience in the design and delivery of lecture, tutorial and laboratory practical materials especially within the Pharmacology and Dosage Form Design courses. One of his teaching philosophy is to create an environment where the students feel that the University is a place where they want to be, not a place they have to be. Consequently, many students nominated Wern for the ‘Excellent Educator Award’ in 2017.
